Untangle the knot

Amongst the multitude of web sites that claim to offer insights into productivity, digital efficiency and the step by step movement towards your goals, few programs nor systems stand out that are not - unashamedly - a sales technique, book offer or course subscription for obtaining wealth without effort.

Yet behind this superficial allure, lies the real need to do things better, more creatively, more satisfactorily. If we could - so the blurb tells us - just tinker a little longer, reshuffle the deck, re-stack the in-tray then productivity would somehow happen. Fortunately, the world operates according to other rules that dictate we learn ( and thereby benefit from) the process, and rarely from the outcome alone.

Shortcuts - in short - rarely work. In fact the opposite is often the case. The persistent effort, the constant struggle, the long-view organic gardener reaps the tastier carrot.

As it is with the digital screen, so it is with the seeds of all we do: time, patience and work reap real results. But to find the meaningful from amongst all the meanignless, a set of tools that is configurable and customisable are essential. A set of tools that can keep up with and reflect our changing mental states, yet remind us when to return back to the source - to still the mind and find a moment to reflect before moving ever forward, ever onwards, ever further away, from where we are.

Such tools are not confined to just the desktop or the keyboard. They will also include the notepad, the ipod, the plant pot and the teapot. Select a category, clean off a carrot and explore.
